Generac Generator questions answered
What is the most common problem with Generac generators?
Common issues with Generac generators include battery failure, low oil shutdown, and fuel-related concerns after long periods of inactivity. Regular maintenance is the best way to prevent these problems. Louisiana Generators offers scheduled maintenance plans to keep your unit running reliably year-round.
What is the downside of a Generac generator?
Generac standby generators require a natural gas or propane connection and a dedicated transfer switch, which adds to the upfront installation cost. They also need regular maintenance to stay in peak condition. The trade-off is automatic, whole-home backup power without any manual setup when an outage hits - a significant advantage in Louisiana's storm-prone climate.
What is the 80% rule for generators?
The 80% rule means you should not run a generator at more than 80% of its rated capacity on a continuous basis. Running at full load for extended periods can cause excessive wear. Staying within 80% of rated wattage keeps the generator running safely and efficiently.
What is the average lifespan of a Generac whole house generator?
A properly maintained Generac whole-house standby generator can provide many years of reliable service. Consistent maintenance is important for the long-term performance of your unit. Louisiana Generators offers Power Club maintenance plans to help keep your Generac running well.
Is it okay to leave a generator running all night?
Generac standby generators are designed for extended run times and can operate through multi-day outages when properly installed and maintained. Unlike portable generators, standby units are permanently installed outdoors with direct fuel connections, making extended operation practical for Baton Rouge homeowners.
