Home Generator Installation Questions Answered
What to look for in buying a generator?
Look for a generator that matches your home's power needs, comes from a reputable brand, and is backed by strong dealer support. Key factors include fuel type, output capacity (measured in kilowatts), automatic transfer switch capability, and the dealer's ability to handle installation and ongoing service. Louisiana Generators helps homeowners evaluate all of these before recommending a system.
What is the most common problem with Generac generators?
Common issues with standby generators include battery problems, fluid leaks, and units that do not start after extended periods of inactivity. Regular maintenance, including annual service and periodic inspections, helps prevent these failures. Louisiana Generators offers maintenance plans designed to keep your generator running reliably year-round.
How hard is it to hook up a home generator?
A standby home generator requires licensed electrical and mechanical work, including connecting to your home's electrical panel, installing a transfer switch, and running a gas line. This is not a DIY project—it requires permits and must be performed by a licensed contractor. Louisiana Generators handles the entire process from start to finish, including permitting and final inspection.
What is the average cost of having a home generator installed?
Installation costs vary depending on the generator size, your home's existing electrical setup, gas line requirements, and local permitting fees. The best starting point is a site assessment. Louisiana Generators provides quotes based on your specific home and needs—contact us for an accurate estimate.
Is a whole house generator a tax write-off?
Tax treatment of whole house generators varies based on individual circumstances and use. Consult a qualified tax professional to determine what applies to your specific situation.
